The 57th Annual Grammy Awards (Review)

Once again… the grammy’s and like any other award show was mostly about the performances and what celebrities were wearing. Now, to let you know before I go on and on about the Grammys, I’ll will be ranting a little about Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Ed Sheeran, Katy Perry and Miranda Lambert because they were the only artists that were there that I really liked. But first, let’s actually do get to what people were wearing. I didn’t get to watch the whole red carpet, but I did see pictures on twitter. I never got to see Tyler Oakley on the Red Carpet (he is one of my favorite Youtubers and I didn’t know where to watch the livestream, I honestly wished they showed it on TV because I love Tyler. If anyone knows where I can watch it, please give me the link please).

Anyways, I loved Taylor’s dress. It was definitely different from what she usually wears, which I liked. She looked gorgeous and I usually never pay attention to these things, but her eye make up was gorgeous. It went with her dress and her eyes, it was just fantastic. I didn’t like Ariana’s dress that much but it looked cute on her and in all honesty she looked very cute with Big Sean. She can date whoever she wants and I think they make a cute couple. Katy looked stunning! I loved how her light purple hair went with her almost ruffled white dress. Let me just say that Ed Sheeran looked so freaking cute in his little suite and tie. Though, he might not be the most attractive person, but he is the sweetest and one of the best dressed. I love Ed with all my heart and he rocked his performance but I’ll get to that later. I didn’t like Miranda’s dress that much, but it did look good on her. It was classy, didn’t show that much skin, it made her look good.

I don’t know what the hell Iggy Azalea looked like. Her hair was just aweful. I take a quote from one of my favorite tweets from last night which was “Are there birds nesting in Iggy’s hair?” It really made me laugh because it was some what true. Why would you have your hair like that for an award show anyway? You’re hair is going to be frizzy no matter how many times you fix it, if she ever did. I’m glad she didn’t perform because that would’ve just ruined my night even more especially because my favorite artists didn’t get to win anything at all.

What I want to know is why Zendaya is at every freaking award show. Why is she there?! Why?! Can someone please explain this to me because I honestly don’t know why she was there. She’s on Disney for crying out loud. Not there is anything wrong with Disney Channel, I was just wondering why she was there because she didn’t present… it’s not like she nominated for anything and she didn’t even perform. (In my opinion, she can’t really sing. She always lip sync’s. But the only good thing about her is that she could dance really well but that’s it.)

What really shocked me was that Miley Cyrus was actually wearing clothes for once. Now, for those who don’t know me, Miley was actually the first artist I ever really liked and obsessed over… she was even my first concert. But when she changed out of her, I guess you can say her “Hannah Montana” phase, I didn’t like how she changed. I know that they say “If your a real fan, you’ll stay with them no matter what” but when she didn’t start to wear clothes, it really disgusted me. You don’t have to be famous for your body and obviously people talk about you as well, but you should be famous for talent… not for your ass, boobs, skin or to be on a reality TV show like the Kardashians. I was actually surprised when she called Madonna “The real bitch” or something like that on TV. I know you can say bitch on TV, but she surprised me when she said that at an award show like the Grammys… like really Miley… really? In my opinion, Nicki Minaj showed off a little too much boobs. I even said “How are someones boobs that big?!” But I guess you really can’t stop them from doing what they want.

Another person who I forgot to mention who looked really good that night was Keith Urban and his wife, Nicole, they we’re probably one of the best dressed out of all of the people there as well as being classy. They’re so sweet and awesome and I love Keith with all my heart. He’s so down to earth and talented. I’m surprised he didn’t win anything either as well. I would also like to point out… why was Sia wearing that huge ass wig? I bet that probably weighed about ten pounds. Could she even see out of that thing? I really don’t get the whole point of Sia actually. I bet she has an awesome voice, no doubt, but she didn’t even really sing her song, it was just her recorded voice and the performance creeped me out slightly, my Mom said the same thing.

Also, I’m not a big fan of Beyonce (I know, shocker. But she isn’t for everybody you know) she actually really did look beautiful with her natural beauty. She was one of the few that came as herself and not dressed insanely for an award show. Rihanna… boy… you could spot Rihanna no matter where you were in the crowd. Her dress was so big and poofy, it was insane. It was pretty, but definitely a little over the top and out there.

Now that talking about what people are wearing is over, let’s get to the actual performances first because they were the thing that people were really talked about during the Grammys. AC/DC was a pretty good opener and from what I just learned, it was their first time performing at the Grammys so that’s pretty cool, especially for them. They must have been stoked. I’m also not a big fan of rock music, but they weren’t bad. If you didn’t bop your head to their music, you weren’t paying attention because they weren’t as bad as I thought they were going to be. Just after AC/DC, Taylor Swift presented the award for best new artists and of course it went to Sam Smith. Not that I hate Sam, but I just wanted maybe Haim or Bastille to win. They’re not as popular as him though, but winning that award would’ve gotten them more recognition. Sam Smith is already popular as it is. There are going to be many award shows after the Grammys for more opportunities to win. Haim will definitely be popular especially because they’re going to be opening for Taylor on her 1989 World Tour (which I’m attending… AGH). Anyways… MOVING ON.

What surprised me the most was Ariana’s performance. She surprised me so much when she sang one of my favorite songs of hers which was Just A Little Bit Of Your Heart. I actually thought she was going to sing Break Free, Problem or Love Me Harder maybe even One Last Time (which is also one of my favorites) but it definitely shocked me when she sang that song. Her performance made me want to cry because at that moment I just felt so proud with her. I’ve been with Ariana since the beginning of her career on Broadway when she was in 13 and to see her on stage at the Grammys, with her brother Frankie in the crowd (you could literally spot him from anywhere as well in the crowd, even if you don’t know who he is) and when she ended her performance, she put her hands over her mouth like she wanted to cry and she was just about to until the camera man cut to the other side of the stage. But I just wanted to give her a big hug and cry with her because I was so proud of her. Even though she didn’t win her first Grammy’s that night, (which I’m still mad about) but her performance was amazing, as always, and definitely proud of her.

Let me just say that the next performer, Miranda Lambert, freaking rocked it as well. She’s one of my idols actually and I have still yet to go to one of her concerts but she really rocked that little red wagon! (Pun intended) Her voice was awesome and she was having a good time and I think that’s all that matters. Blake was also cheering her on in the crowd which I thought was really good because they always cheer each other on whenever one of them is performing. Besides Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman, they’re probably one of the cutest couples in country music. Now I know country music not be for everyone… especially with some of the tweets I’ve seen on twitter… but I love country music and I love seeing all genres of music being combined into one award show. It’s pretty awesome.

I’m sorry for any Kanye West but I just hate him… loathe him actually. His performance wasn’t good at all. It was all autotuned and I feel like he wasn’t singing at all. I have no idea what his real voice sounds like but I bet it wasn’t even that good. Now mind you, that this is just my opinion. I never even realized he had 21 grammys… but…why? He usually autotunes his performances anyway. I didn’t even want to watch it because I pretty much hate Kanye. I can’t even stand writing about him so I’m sorry and I’m going to talk about someone else. (Sorry but this is just my opinion, please don’t get mad. I just really hate Kanye. I usually don’t hate on that many artists but him I really don’t like at all)

The next performer was Madonna. Her performance wasn’t even that bad. Her dancers were dressed as devils, that was pretty strange. She didn’t even really sing for the most part. I could tell most of it was recorded and I couldn’t really hear her sing. She danced for most of the song, it was kind of stupid and not that entertaining. There really isn’t much of me to say about her performance.

Next was my man, Ed Sheeran. He was so cute with his little suite and tie. He performed one of his newest hits, Thinking Out Loud which is one of my favorite songs. (I love a lot of his other songs but I’ll talk about them another time) but his performance was so soothing. He performed with John Meyer, who played guitar along with Ed as well as Herbie Hancock playing the piano. He also played a song with the Electric Light Orchestra. I know the song itself but I forget the actual name of it which bothered me. If anyone knows what I’m talking about, please tell me the name of the song they sang together because it’s been bothering me since last night. But when Ed finished his performances, he looked so happy because he had a big smile on his face and he looked so adorable. Ed should’ve won his grammy last year and this year because he is so freaking talented and it’s not fair that Sam Smith had beaten him multiple times.

The next performance was Adam Levine and Gwen Stefani. Adam was pretty good, he made the song. But Gwen kind of ruined it. Something was off with the song and it was her voice. They really didn’t go well with each other. It was also kind of a snoozer. Does anyone else agree with me? I just didn’t like the performance at all really. Adam’s voice is always really good live and I’m not a huge fan of Maroon 5 but I do like them. I think Gwen was the one that really ruined the song and I don’t think they should’ve picked a slow song to sing. It kind of brought everyone down. Definitely not one of the best performances of the night.

Hozier’s performance was pretty good. My grandma loves Annie Lennox so it was her highlight of the night. They definitely brought a lot of throwbacks with a lot of old singers to perform at the Grammys that night, that’s for sure. But it was a good thing, they were definitely better than most of the performances that night. Then my girl Miranda Lambert won a Grammy for best country album for Platinum presented by my two favorite singers Nick Jonas and Meghan Trainor.

Oh god… don’t even get me started with Pharell… I mean… what was that performance even? I didn’t even know what song he was performing until the first notes of Happy played. He even wear shorts to the Grammys, beat Taylor Swift and ruined his own song. What is up with that? I didn’t like his performance at all and as I said, he basically ruined his whole song. I basically have no words for that performance because I hated what he was wearing… the beginning of the song was very stupid and it was just a mess. He even wore a bellhop outfit with tennis shoes and as extratv.com states on their website… it was a little scary… and they were right.

Next was Katy Perry. Now, I’ve seen Katy Perry live before and I was surprised when she sang By the Grace of God. That song makes me cry every time. It was so amazing to see her perform it at the Grammys and the background dancing was really cool. It showed her moving in the beginning, projected on the screen, then it was another person that came onto the screen and then another person was added in later on. I’m still trying to understand the whole objective to the dancing but it was very interesting to watch and at the end, it was just her mirroring to the projected background again. She wore this long, white dress and she sang the song after Barak Obama gave a speech about domestic violence. It was true was he was talking about though and for Katy to sing right afterwards, it was very cool. Katy’s performances always blow me away. She definitely deserved a Grammy that night that she still haven’t won for. I even found out that Katy’s been nominated for a Grammy 11 times before and she never won one once. Whoever chooses the people who win for these awards sucks because they never pick the right ones every time and I get mad every year I watch awards shows. Sometimes I honestly don’t know why I watch them all the way through.

Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett were so cute together! I never actually listened to the song before, but they were really good! I feel like it lifted everyone’s spirits up a little bit after Katy’s performance, because I know it did for me. This song really showed of Lady Gaga’s voice and she has quiet a voice and I was definitely impressed! It was cute, bouncy little song and I would definitely listen to it again whenever I would have the chance to because it was really good.

Usher’s performance wasn’t bad either. I liked when Stevie Wonder popped out of nowhere, it was awesome. His voice went good with the song, soft and mellow. It was just good to watch and a little one on one with Usher.

In all honesty, I never even heard of Brandy Clark until the Grammys. And if she was nominated for Grammy, then she has to be good. Which she definitely was. It’s definitely an artist for me to get into especially because I love country music. The next artist to perform after her was Eric Church. He wasn’t that bad, as usual and he sang one of his most popular song Give Me Back My Hometown, a song of his which I like in particular. Not one of my favorite performances but definitely a good song.

Next was Rihanna, Kanye West (again) with Paul McCartney sing their song for the first time called FourFiveSeconds. They are also the most unlikely trio of people to sing together on Earth but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I definitely seen it on the charts before and it was up there for a long time and I bet it’s still on there and went up and down again because of the performance that people saw. That song was actually better than I expected it to be. It would’ve definitely been better with Kanye. Because I probably would’ve bought the song if it wasn’t for Kanye. But Paul looked so cute dancing along to it and it was definitely a catchy song to dance too like Paul McCartney was doing.

Up next was Sam Smith and Mary J. Blige.  That performance was actually really good. I think it would’ve been better without Mary. I feel like she took up most of Sam’s singing time to show off his vocals.  She always takes over everything, which is what I feel like. And her vocals weren’t the best because I don’t think her voice was fit for that song. I don’t know her music honestly, but that was just what I was thinking. But Sam’s vocals were good as always and it sounded just like the record, which I loved. If you have talent, you sound exactly like the record on the album. I guess that’s why Sam won all of his nominations that night huh?

Jaunes was pretty good, though I didn’t understand what he was singing. I wish I had my Dad at that moment to ask him what Jaunes was singing. I really should learn Spanish… and I really didn’t understand Sia’s performance. Was that her dancing? I was so confused with the whole Sia thing… it even creeped me out slightly as I mentioned earlier. I don’t have much to say because I didn’t really understand it and what was going on. She wasn’t even singing so I didn’t really even bother watching it. I really don’t like that song anyways, so what was the point of me watching? I never even heard her real talking voice so I don’t even know what the hell she sounds like. And in between Sam and Sia’s performance… Beck won for Album of the Year and I was so pissed off. I never even heard of him and he beats Ariana, Katy and Ed? I was so mad beyond believe you don’t understand. I didn’t even want to watch it anymore after that. Not that many awards were being presented anyway but what’s the point?

But I continued to watch it anyway. Sam Smith one… again… Then the memorial for all of the artists that had died that year was shown and it made me want to cry. Even though I didn’t know those artists… it’s depressing to think that one day that’s going to happen to our favorite artists. We all come and go, but just to see maybe our parents and grandparents favorite artists die that year, makes it even depressing to think more will die later on in the future.

Then it was time for the “queen herself, Beyonce.” Her performance was slightly boring but her vocals were really good. Also, not much to say about that performance because it was very short. Then they replay Sam Smith’s performance of Stay With Me and then it ended. It was the first time I actually watched the Grammy’s the whole way through and in all honesty, it was boring. I hate when the announce a lot of the awards before the actually award show starts because then they just have performances throughout the whole thing and barely any awards given out during it. Anyone else hate that as well?

Well, what was your favorite performance? Who do you think actually deserved to win? Need a little rant about your favorite artists, best or worst dressed?
